We’re going to try and start keeping up with our blog again. Looks like we got a little a busy, so it’s been a while since we’ve posted anything. And Melissa is making me jealous with how good she is about updating her blog! : )

One new home, two crazy cats!

So parts of our house are finally clean enough so that we can show some pictures… (more to come later as we get the rooms cleaned). We really like it here in Oxford at New Town. It is a great place to live, and we feel like we fit in better than our previous place. The best thing is, it is still in New Town, and my way to school and Alicia’s work has barely changed. We are pretty much sorted now though; I have installed a couple of ceiling fans (only 1 more to go), but I do still have a number of boxes of items to donate or freecycle.

So to those crazy kitties… The other day I came downstairs early in the morning, and I saw Kumar looking into the bathroom with a OMG look on his face. So I go in there, and the cat litter box is turned over on its side, the cat litter is spread over the floor, and all the cat food cans and basket with treats is all over the place. And there in the middle of the living room is Harold, tearing open a bag of treats… I guess he was just really hungry So yeah, Harold is definitely doing good… (don’t worry, he gets plenty of food).

Harold & Kumar

So we finally got a second kitty. His name is Harold and he is about 4 years old. He was “advertised” to us by the shelter as a very shy cat that will probably hide most of the time… Well they were wrong.

He is actually a really cute cat, but can be quite crazy at times, especially at night. But we absolutely love him. Here are some early pictures, but we will upload more soon.

In other news, Alicia and I moved to the other side of New Town (so just a couple of blocks) to a new Town home, and we really like it so far. I’ll post pictures as soon as I’ve cleaned up enough…

Spring Break!

So it’s finally spring break! School has been pretty crazy the last two weeks, and Alicia has been busy with work, so we haven’t updated in a while… Alicia did get a new haircut, so be sure to follow the link for some pictures!

Spring break is here, and I’m glad. I actually have a lot of work to do over spring break, so it’s nice not to have to worry about going to class for a couple of days. I have a bunch of projects to work on, which I’ll expand on later, and I have to clean the apartment by Wednesday as Alicia’s mom is coming to visit. Now our apartment isn’t too unclean, but things have piled up a little the last few days…

Alicia went and got her haircut yesterday, and I really like it. I should really get my haircut as well! So maybe I’ll try to get that done as well this week…

So here are the projects I need to work on. First, I am starting a GPGPU (General Purpose computation on GPUs) project for my Advanced Operating Systems class. I’m pretty excited about this, as nVidia now provides a the ability to run custom C code on some of its graphics cards. For my project, I will try to implement some encryption algorithms (most likely AES) in parallel to run on the GPU, and compare its performance to running it solely on the processor. My true goal is to then use this for on-the-fly hard drive encryption. For me to be able to do this, I am going to be building small Linux box, since my other computer uses an ATI card. This project should be quite a bit of fun, so I’ll try to post some updates as it comes along.

I will also be working on a non-class project that is based on YouTube statistics models, but I can’t say too much at this point. I’ll write another post on this later as well. Oh, and on top of this, my normal computer crashed the other day (due to user clumsiness… I stepped on the power switch on the UPS), and now the parts of the OS are corrupt, so I can’t boot into it. Of course, its not as simple as that, I have two SATA drives that are striped, and XP isn’t recognizing the drivers at the moment, so that will also be what I will work on the next couple of days. I would have liked to have taken care of this earlier, but I just haven’t had the time.

So for now that is it, but now that I have a week off, I will update this blog a little more with some cool things that have happened the last few weeks, and I am planning on starting a recurrent feature, so be sure to check back for it. Alicia is Addicted, Kumar is Hungry, and I’m Stubborn

So here is a quick update on how we’re doing and whats going on in our lives. Click more to read the whole post…

So, Alicia is addicted… to Link’s Crossbow Training that is. So for those of you that don’t know, the Wii Zapper is a attachment for the Wii that transforms the remotes into a “crossbow” (or other shooting device), and it comes with Link’s Crossbow Training. The object of the game is to shoot targets that pop up on the screen. It sounds pretty simple, but its really quite fun, and very hard at times; best of all though, Alicia loves it! She has spent countless tries to make sure that she gets platinum (close to perfect scores) on all the levels, and she’s actually awesome at it (much better than I am).

Other than that, Kumar thinks he isn’t being fed enough (at every single moment of the day), but don’t worry he definitely is getting enough food. However, he has figured out that when he really wants our attention, he just needs to get on the dining room table and start tossing things off it… Other than that, we did get him an insert for his cat fountain that grows cat grass, so hopefully that will appease him a little. Since I’m talking about cats, if you ever need a present for a cat lover, the Boogie Mat would be the perfect thing. Santa brought Kumar one for Christmas, and he absolutely loves it.

So now to me. Apparently I’m stubborn since I won’t let Alicia get a Dog or another Cat, or even a Chameleon… I just think we need to wait a while to see what we end up doing at the end of this semester. So far I’m pretty sure that we’ll be staying here in the area for a while, and so we might look into getting a house and moving out of our apartment if we can afford it. We’ll see what we end up doing, and I’ll probably post it here soon. Other than that, I am pretty busy at school and Alicia is busy with work, and its probably not gonna get any easier any time soon, but thats ok. I might be starting on a project/paper on the side, but I might write another post on that this weekend.

More Snow…

I can’t believe it! It actually snowed here in Virginia! For a girl from Florida, snow’s kind of an amazing thing when it’s in your own yard. This was just the start of it though, so check back for more : )
